We have already talked about the unique Ukrainian startup Releaf Paper – a paper manufacturer from fallen leaves. And we continue to monitor his achievements.
Recently, the company released two collections, including bags and paper sheets made from paper, which in turn is made from fallen leaves without cutting down trees. At the same time, this paper is subject to secondary processing or biodegradation within 40-55 days. The new collections are aimed at satisfying the demand for durable and versatile paper products.
This year, the company is a finalist in the prestigious Packaging Europe Sustainability Awards, which are awarded annually for developments and achievements in the field of packaging. For a two-year-old startup, this is a very significant achievement. In addition, we would like to remind you that last year Releaf Paper received a grant of 2.5 million euros under the EIC Accelerator 2022 for the development of its technology.
"In terms of impact, we save 17 trees for every ton of Releaf paper produced. We have 78% less CO2 emissions compared to traditional paper production, and 15 times less water consumption compared to paper production. To produce 1 ton of material, 2,3 tons of leaves." - says Oleksandr Sobolenko, CEO of Releaf Paper.
The company has already received the first buyers of its products. And despite the high competition and implementation difficulties, the director of the company assumes that the project will be fully commercialized next year.
