Thermal packaging is exactly the case where it is very difficult to find a replacement for plastic. Especially when it comes to postal shipments. However, new legislation is capable of “working miracles” and such an alternative has also appeared.
British thermal packaging manufacturer Hydropac has unveiled its latest product, the Wool Thermal Postal Pocket, a thermal mailing bag designed specifically for the shipment of temperature-sensitive goods. The company claims that the new bags are capable of maintaining thermal insulation for 24 to 48 hours (depending on the ambient temperature and the bag's configuration). They are also said to provide improved breathability, which helps prevent condensation.
The bags are available in two sizes: 250 x 310 mm (small) and 320 x 410 mm (medium) and are designed to minimise empty space in boxes and ensure load stability.
The outer layer of the bags is made from recycled plastic, and the inner wool liner is biodegradable and disintegrates during composting. The liner is also reusable.
