All trends in the development of the packaging market in recent years clearly show two global directions: towards the recycling and full cycle of the use of plastic in packaging and its replacement by other materials where possible. At the Interpack 2023 exhibition held in Düsseldorf, quite a number of different solutions for replacing plastics in packaging were presented. We want to tell you more about one of them.

It was presented at the exhibition by Blue Ocean Closures, Stora Enso and Aisa and is quite a revolutionary development. It is a cardboard tube, 85% consisting of wood fibers. Moreover, the screw cap is also made on the basis of fibers. And although the development still requires testing on existing packaging equipment, it has already been announced that in 2024 paper tubes will go on open sale. At the moment, they are intended for packaging cosmetics, personal care products and household chemicals.

This development was made possible solely through the collaboration of several companies, each of which contributed its own innovations. The fibre-based screw cap is designed by Blue Ocean Closures, the carton tube is provided by Stora Enso, the Natura Shape barrier coating is used and finally assembled by Aisa. All tube components are recyclable and made from renewable sources.
