Taking into account that wood is getting more and more expensive and, accordingly, cardboard and paper products as well, enterprises naturally are begining to look for suitable alternatives to wood. The British company Test Valley Packaging has partnered with envoPAP to offer its customers a new development - carton packaging and RAW paper made from sugar cane waste.
According to the manufacturing company, the production process in terms of energy costs is comparable to the production of traditional wood pulp, from which paper and cardboard are later made. At the same time, agricultural waste is used as a source of cellulose, produced in large quantities in some countries and previously simply thrown away.
Test Valley Packaging already offers cardboard boxes, mail envelopes and printing paper made from sugarcane waste. The product has already been independently tested and confirmed to meet the same standards as board and wood-based paper. RAW packaging is available in both brown and white finishes and exhibits exemplary print quality.
This is not the only development of alternatives to wood pulp. Earlier, we wrote about the Ukrainian startup Releaf Paper, which offers the production of paper products from fallen leaves. This project has just been a finalist for the Sustainability Awards 2022, received solid funding and has already launched an online store for international clients.
In addition, an interesting option is offered by scientists from the University of Oregon, who have developed packaging made of molded pulp from 20-30% of the pomace remaining in the production of apple juice.
