We have previously written about tightening legislation aimed at combating single-use plastics in Europe. Many countries have imposed additional taxes on single-use plastic food packaging, and some have banned their use altogether. All this forces manufacturers of packaging solutions to look for alternative materials for packaging.
More and more such options are appearing. Most recently, the Israeli company TIPA presented its new development. They made a food container from cellulose fibers obtained from agricultural waste from rice cultivation. It is intended for packaging vegetables, fruits, and bakery products. The manufacturer also claims the ability to pack hot meals and use this container as packaging for ready-to-go food. According to him, ready-made food can be stored in such a container for up to 48 hours.
The new container can be recycled like regular paper or composted, even at home. The technology can be considered as an alternative to conventional cellulose made from wood. It is also expected to help reduce emissions from burning agricultural waste.
With its development, TIPA, on the one hand, provides an opportunity for additional income for farmers, and on the other, an alternative and environmentally friendly packaging option for several areas of the food trade.
