One of the leaders in the production of lubricants in the world, Castrol, has entered into an agreement with the world's first designer and manufacturer of pulp bottles Pulpex.

As a reminder, in the middle of last year, Pulpex presented its unique development to the market: bottles made entirely of vegetable cellulose, i.e. essentially made of paper. Such bottles are produced by pressing special pulp into molds, followed by drying and internal spraying of special coatings compatible with the product being bottled. The resulting bottle is made of completely recyclable material and contains no PET at all. It leaves a significantly lower carbon footprint than PET or glass bottles. Currently, these bottles are suitable for cold filling non-carbonated edible liquids. However, their creators are constantly working to improve their brainchild and expand the scope of its application.

One of the first investors of Pulpex was the largest alcoholic beverages manufacturer, Diageo, which has already announced the release of one of its brands in 2021, Johnnie Walker whiskey, in a paper bottle. In addition to Diageo, Pulpex's developments have interested such giants as PepsiCo, Unilever and GSK Consumer Healthcare. They formed a partner consortium last year to support further improvements to the Pulpex bottle. And on May 5, 2021, Castrol joined this consortium.

Of course, each of the companies is most interested in using a paper bottle specifically for their products. Which significantly speeds up development, since they are conducted in parallel in several directions. And it is very likely that we will be able to see the first paper bottles on supermarket shelves this and next year.
