For many products, flexible plastics are still the most convenient and cheapest option for packaging materials. And even more so – replacing them with something more environmentally friendly and recyclable seems like an impossible task. We are talking about small, angular, heavy items, the packaging of which must be strong enough.

But! This could all change. Mondi is launching a new kraft paper, Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible, which can be used as a material for packaging small, sharp and heavy items using the FFS method. The new paper has increased strength, high puncture resistance, good stretchability and, importantly, a smooth surface.

The paper was developed as a base for the production of coated, heat-sealable packaging. Its inner side has a surface well suited for coating, while the outer side has a smooth surface that is excellent for printing.

The manufacturer claims that the new paper is perfect for vertical packaging machines, where a bag is formed from a roll of material, the product is poured into it and the bag is sealed at the top and bottom. At the same time, it is claimed that it can be used to pack sharp and heavy objects, such as children's construction sets, spare parts, building materials, and of course dry food products.

The new material is certified as recyclable like paper and is designed to be used on existing packaging equipment without requiring any technical modifications.
