What can a company do to reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging? To do this, P&G is practically changing the concept and philosophy of the entire production of shampoos and conditioners, acting as a global pioneer and innovator.
The company announced that the brands Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Herbal Essences and Aussie will now offer shampoos and conditioners in the form of solid bars, vaguely similar to the bars of soap we are used to. Each such bar will be equivalent to two 250 ml bottles of liquid shampoo or conditioner. It will have an attractive and comfortable shape and a cotton string for hanging in the shower.
The company says solid shampoos and conditioners will match their liquid predecessors, creating abundant foam and fragrance while remaining a highly effective hair cleanser. Each bar will be packed in a cardboard box. This will allow P&G to reduce its use of plastic by 10,000 tons per year.
Of course, such a global change in production is based not only on the potential savings in plastic, but also on the results of consumer research in various countries around the world, showing the desire of buyers to purchase products in plastic-free packages.
Recall that earlier, in 2020, P&G launched a scalable system of reusable bottles and bags for filling them for the same brands.
