Transportation and storage of large quantities of goods in warehouses often involves palletizing and wrapping them with film for stability and safety. Using film brings with it quite a lot of inconvenience and is absolutely not environmentally friendly, but it is a necessary evil. Or rather, it was until recently.

The German company Baumer hhs offers its solution to the problem - using special anti-slip hot-melt adhesive for boxes. According to them, this will significantly reduce the volume of film used for packaging pallets and packaging waste in general. The adhesive must be applied to the boxes before they are stacked on the pallet and even a small amount of adhesive is expected to hold the boxes together and secure them to the pallet, preventing movement. Of course, this solution for securing boxes on a pallet is unlikely to be suitable for long-distance transportation, but it can be very beneficial for transportation over relatively short distances.

The gluing system is designed for flexible integration into conveyors between final packaging and carton palletizing. It is already used on packaging lines and pays for itself quite quickly. The manufacturer claims that the investment in its installation is returned within a year, mainly due to the elimination of the use of plastic film. At the same time, the system is scalable depending on customer requirements.

"This resource-saving innovation for securing pallet and transport loads has elicited an overwhelming response across the market," says Martin Kotecki, Packaging Business Development Manager at Baumer hhs. "After observing the first few systems in operation at leading companies in various industries to verify the significant advantages, we are now shipping the solution worldwide."
