We’ve written about attempts to market various compostable coffee capsules. But none of these projects seemed to be scalable enough, combined with eco-efficiency, to be widely adopted. However, the problem of large quantities of used coffee capsules remained, and so a solution had to emerge.
And Greiner Packaging, in partnership with Constantia Flexibles, has come up with just that. The fully compostable Tally Friendly coffee capsules are now certified for home composting. The capsules themselves are a development of Greiner Packaging. They are made from a compostable polymer that undergoes an injection moulding process. The capsule lid is made from EcoPressoLid, a fibrous material with barrier properties supplied by Constantia Flexibles.
The received certificate means that all materials in the capsule, when placed in a regular compost pit, will turn into humus in no more than 12 months.
The capsule has already received recognition at the international exhibition WorldStar Packaging Awards 2025 and is now being launched into mass production.
