Or at least it's trying to do so. And so far only for one product. And only in a few markets. But more about all of that.

So, we are talking about the new McFlurry ice cream cups, which are now designed without the ability to put on the usual plastic lid. Instead, the cups are equipped with special flaps that allow you to close most of the top surface and protect the ice cream. However, this does not protect the ice cream from the flaps themselves, which can easily touch the product. And judging by the short videos online, this happens often.

The innovation leaves a mixed impression. On the one hand, it is a real step forward in reducing the use of plastic by a giant like McDonald’s. And such an effort is worthy of praise. On the other hand, the design solution has its drawbacks, is not very convenient and does not fully fulfill the functions of product protection. Finally, at the moment, the new cups are used only in the USA, Canada and Indonesia. And whether they will further spread throughout the world is a question. Will the innovation turn out to be just another advertising campaign declaring the company’s sustainability policy, but not receiving large-scale distribution, we ask ourselves.
