Probably, many buyers who are environmentally responsible and trying to minimize their plastic waste have wondered: what to do with bread packaging? Why isn't anyone trying to reduce the huge amount of plastic bags that are used to package bread and end up in landfills?

In fact, we dare to assume that many bread producers, especially in European countries, were wondering how to get rid of these endless bags, which undoubtedly damage the environmental reputation of production. And many have come to terms with the lack of a cheap and fresh alternative to plastic. After all, bread and bakery products are very specific, have a short shelf life and easily spoil. Therefore, manufacturers always have to balance between reducing possible food waste, cheapness and environmental friendliness.

And just recently, an interesting alternative to standard plastic bags for packaging bread has appeared on the packaging solutions market. Compostable packaging specialist Treetop Biopak has introduced biodegradable bags for packaging fresh baked goods. A specially developed single-layer material with increased barrier properties is used for them. The bags are compostable after use.

According to the manufacturer, tests have shown that the shelf life of sliced bread packaged in these bags is from 7 to 10 days. And after disposal, they do not leave behind microplastics and other pollutants. And finally, tests have shown that the new compostable bags can be easily implemented for use on existing packaging lines, without requiring modernization. Externally, they differ from ordinary plastic bags, so it will be easy for the buyer to identify and select them.
