The American corporation Keurig Dr Pepper, one of the largest beverage manufacturers in the world, presented its latest development in the coffee market. This is a K-Rounds coffee pod that contains no plastic or aluminum, and the brewing system for these pods is Keurig Alta.

The capsule will be compressed ground coffee with a plant-based protective coating that preserves its taste and aroma. The coating is based on alginate. A new coffee machine has also been developed for the new capsules, allowing you to prepare a wide variety of hot and cold coffee.

The development of the new capsules was the result of both the company's many years of in-house research and the purchase of a perpetual license from Delica Switzerland for its patented plant-based coating and application process. Keurig now has exclusive rights to use these technologies in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The new capsules will allow you to prepare coffee both under high pressure - for espresso and other drinks based on it, and under low pressure - for cold or hot drip coffee. The capsules will be produced in different sizes for different types of coffee drinks and will be marked with a special code. The Keurig Alta coffee machine, by reading this code, will automatically determine the desired pressure and extraction profile necessary to obtain the most delicious drink.

It is expected that after use, the new capsules can be discarded like regular coffee grounds. The company is currently working on the process of certifying them as compostable.

At the moment, Keurig is planning a beta testing phase of a new system that combines the developed capsules and a coffee machine, and is just recruiting people to carry it out. The first stage of testing should begin this fall. During the event, each consumer will be able to leave their feedback on the system, allowing the company to optimize it before launching it for public sale.
