Toothpaste not from a tube
Toothpaste is a product we can hardly imagine without its familiar disposable tube. It's even more difficult to imagine toothpaste in reusable packaging. But that's exactly what I'd like to talk about now.
It's a relatively new product, developed over two years by the British company Suri. It's a reusable pump dispenser that holds a toothpaste refill. The dispenser is designed to dispense the optimal amount of toothpaste needed for a single brushing session with a single press. Each refill contains 60 ml of toothpaste—enough for about a month's use.
The refill itself doesn't resemble a tube, but rather a round bottle. It's made of Vivomer, a plastic-free biomaterial that's claimed to be compostable in home composting.
To use the new solution, simply unscrew the pump cap from the dispenser, remove the cap from the refill, insert it into the dispenser, and screw it into the pump until it locks into place. For the first use after replacing the refill, press the pump several times to dispense the paste, then press it once. It's simple and unique.
