Paper packaging for liquids

The initial batch of the new sachets has already been produced, and Bower Collective will use them as samples for three varieties of its liquid soap. The sachets were manufactured by Guardpack. However, the key feature—and the actual innovation—is the use of a seaweed-based barrier coating developed by Kelpi.

It is this coating that solves the problem traditional for this type of packaging - a complex processing process due to multilayers and the presence of barrier coatings based on plastic. Now with a seaweed coating, the new sachets can be recycled like regular paper. And even if they are not recycled, they will not harm the environment. At the same time, in terms of its water-repellent properties, the new coating is comparable to coatings made from fossil materials.

The sachets were manufactured and filled on existing production lines; consequently, the new material does not require equipment modifications for its use. They are suitable for virtually all liquid products in the household chemical and personal care sectors.

Bower Collective is currently gathering customer feedback not only on the liquid soap packaged in the new pouches but also on the pouches themselves; a decision regarding their wider use will be made based on an analysis of this feedback.
