Moulded fibre from fallen leaves
Molded wood fiber packaging has been considered an excellent alternative to plastic molds for several years now. And it has indeed replaced plastic for many products. However, the question of alternatives to wood has also arisen, as we've become overly reliant on it in packaging. Therefore, Z1RO's development is already worthy of attention.
The company has developed a technology for creating spun fiber from agricultural waste, bamboo, hemp, and fallen leaves. The solution is designed from the outset to be scalable and cost-effective, utilizing existing spun fiber production equipment. Preliminary estimates suggest the new fiber production process could reduce energy consumption and the use of chemicals.
The new molded fiber's appearance is primarily targeted at premium packaging applications: beauty products, cosmetics, electronics, wine, luxury goods, etc.
Interestingly, Z1RO was founded by Ukrainian Alexander Sobolenko, the former CEO of Releaf Paper, a company that produces packaging paper from fallen leaves. We suspect that his ideas and knowledge of materials science are the foundation of this new venture. We believe this is a very promising initiative, and we will be monitoring its development.
